April Prices Received Index Down 3.6 Percent
The April Prices Received Index 2011 Base (Agricultural Production), at 137.7, decreased 3.6 percent from March but increased 12 percent from April 2024. The Livestock Production Index, at 168.1, decreased 8.0 percent from March, but increased 18 percent from April last year. At 100.8, the Crop Production Index was up 4.9 percent from last month but down 1.1 percent from the previous year. Producers received lower prices during April for market eggs, milk, lettuce, and hogs but higher prices for cattle, broilers, strawberries, and calves. In addition to prices, the volume change of commodities marketed also influences the indexes. In April, there was decreased marketing of corn, cattle, soybeans, and hay and increased monthly movement for strawberries, milk, broilers, and market eggs.
April Prices Paid Index Up 0.5 Percent
The April Prices Paid Index for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW), at 148.4, is up 0.5 percent from March 2025 and 5.8 percent from April 2024. Higher prices in April for feeder cattle, milk cows, nitrogen, and hay & forages more than offset lower prices for feeder pigs, wage rates, complete feeds, and other services.
