August Ag Prices Received Index Up 1.9 Percent; Prices Paid Index Down 1.2 Percent

August Prices Received Index Up 1.9 Percent  

The August Prices Received Index 2011 Base (Agricultural Production), at 135.5, increased 1.9 percent from July but decreased 2.0 percent from August 2025. At 113.2, the Crop Production Index was up 5.8 percent from last month and 6.2 percent from the previous year. The Livestock Production Index, at 153.7, decreased 2.2 percent from July and 8.5 percent from August last year. Producers received higher prices during August for strawberries, corn, soybeans, and lettuce but lower prices for cattle, grapes, milk, and calves. In addition to prices, the volume change of commodities marketed also influences the indexes. In August, there was increased monthly movement for cattle, grapes, calves, and broilers and decreased marketing of wheat, corn, soybeans, and strawberries.  

August Prices Paid Index Down 1.2 Percent  

The August Prices Paid Index for Commodities and Services, Interest, Taxes, and Farm Wage Rates (PPITW), at 159.8, is down 1.2 percent from July 2026 but up 5.3 percent from August 2025. Lower prices in August for feeder cattle, nitrogen, feeder pigs, and mixed fertilizer more than offset higher prices for diesel, hay and forages, other services, and complete feeds.
